The simulation led by Mr Mahmud as the Scout leader also a member of Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) assisted by all Vision School’s teachers started by playing a video about the preparation needed in handling the natural disaster. The official video was released by BNPB in animation format and used an easy-listening song. Enthusiastically, all the students join the simulation well.
After the training, the students need to join an open simulation which means they need to do exactly the same as the video played as if real.
Starting from the danger serine, then they need to understand that it is a dangerous situation. Secondly, they need to stay calm and quickly do the preparation like searching the secure place, protect the head and alert on surroundings. Third, they did the evacuation following the line to the assembly point to make sure that everyone is safe and sound.
By eventually doing this training, it is hoped that the students have a quick response to any kinds of natural disaster.
Did you know what is the proper action to earthquake?
- Stay alert- anticipate and prepare.
- Repair house construction to an earthquake-free.
- Place the wardrobe to the wall.
- Put the heavy things on the bottom side of it.
- Put the fragile or flammable things in a closed and secured place.
- Hang the heavy things far from bed such as photo frame or mirror.
- Repair the electricity or gas damage and recognize the safe place inside and outside the house.
- Prepare and keep a ready bag-to-go doing the evacuation training regularly.
- Have the important contacts such as police station, BNPB, hospital or other emergency contacts.
When earthquake happens:
- Stay calm, crouched under the table and cover your head.
- Stay away from glass of window. Stay inside the room and go out when it is safe.
- Turn the gas, water, and electricity.
- Put on the footwear.
- Use the stairs, stay away from the buildings, trees, billboard, streetlights or cable network.
- Stay inside the vehicle and on the road
- If you are stuck, cover your mouth with a piece of cloth (handkerchief) don’t put on the fire and make a sound.
What to do when the earthquake stops?
- Stay alert of the next earthquake.
- Look for the information from the radio or tv, stay away from rumors or hoax.
- Stay in safe place until the government said so.
- Stay away from things and ruins
- If you smell a gas open the window and go out quickly.
- If you found any cable open turn off the electricity directly
- Help the victims
Remember that we cant avoid earthquake but we can be prepared. Stay alert.
